Before I start,... let's just review my willingness to adopt new technologies (the realm of software development aside, for who-knows-why).
[0.] Scientific Calculator
I liked my pink calculator. It had large blue buttons that were easy to press. Scientific calculators didn't come in pink. So there I was in Math 12, happily computing away, the only kid with log table printouts. Eventually, in university, one of my significant figures fell off the display, and I realized it was time to upgrade to a non-pink device.
[1.] Windows 3.1
I didn't want to use Windows 3.1. It was awkward, grey, ugly, and it gave BSODs. I preferred Geoworks. It was user-friendly, had pretty icons, and cool gadgetry. Plus it didn't crash. I stubbornly stuck with it past its untimely obsolescence until I could no longer install new software.
[2.] Pentium
My 486 was with me through the best of times, and through the worst of times. Sure, I had to wait a little longer for operations to complete, but complete they did. Until I had to do a Java 3D programming assignment. So, I got a Pentium... in 2002.
[3.] Cell phones
"You don't have a cell phone? You don't have a cell phone?? You don't have a cell phone??? You don't have a cell phone????" Basically, I got a cell phone when all the public phones downtown were systematically removed or disabled. I called Operator when I saw this strange phenomenon taking place. "Where did all the pay phones go?" I said. Operator patiently explained that pay phones were for drug deals and sigh-I-should-damn-well-get-a-cell-phone-for-heavens-sake-like-any-normal-modern-day-human-being.
[3.] Social Networking Sites
Well, I make a poor show of Facebook, but I am technically On It.
My sister is the Facebook champion. As my Mom would say "she's very with it." Not being in an indie band, I felt no need to participate in MySpace. At some point in 2006, my sister invited me to be one of her closest 400 friends. So I joined Facebook to see what all the fuss was about (it's all about Theme Party photos), and then proceeded to allow my profile page to collect Internet dust.
[4.] Blog
Everyone and their cat(s) haz a blog. Now, in 2008, I should darn well start one too.
